Reba McEntire
In 1978, Reba McEntire released her self-titled debut album, before scoring her first Top 10 hit with "(You Lift Me) Up to Heaven" in 1980. Throughout the early 1980s, she recorded a succession of popular singles, including "Today All Over Again" (1981), "I'm Not That Lonely Yet" (1982), "You're the First Time I've Thought About Leaving" (1983), and "Just a Little Love" (1984). In the mid-1980s, McEntire severed her contract with Mercury and signed with the MCA record label, with whom she would achieve phenomenal success. The 1986 albums Whoever's in New England and What Am I Gonna Do About You both secured a place at No. 1 on the country charts, while Greatest Hits and The Last One to Know (both 1987) held the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.

With MCA, Reba McEntire was crowned the Country Music Association's Best Female Vocalist an unprecedented four years in a row (1984-87). In 1987, McEntire divorced Battles; two years later, she wed her road manager Narvel Blackstock. The entrepreneurial couple began to build a lucrative talent-management firm (Starstruck Entertainment), which eventually expanded to offer construction, publishing, and travel services.

In the early 1990s, Reba McEntire placed three more singles in the No. 1 spot - "You Lie" (1990), "For My Broken Heart, and "Is There Life Out There" (both 1991). Later that year, tragedy struck when a plane carrying McEntire's tour manager and seven band members crashed near San Diego, California. McEntire was criticized for returning to the stage with new musicians within a month of their death, but her album For My Broken Heart (1991) answered critics by paying tribute to the victims. The following year, McEntire recorded the album It's Your Call, followed by Read My Mind (1994), What If It's You (1996), and So Good Together (1999).

With a flourishing music career, Reba McEntire tried her hand at acting, making her screen debut in the 1991 film Tremors. More substantial roles in made-for-TV movies followed, including The Man From Left Field (1993); Buffalo Girls (1995), starring Anjelica Huston and Liev Schreiber; and Forever Love (1998), marking McEntire's first leading role. She is also featured in One Night at McCool's (2001), which headlined Matt Dillon, Michael Douglas, and John Goodman.
